The challenge
An ISMS should guide real decisions
An ISMS must guide real decisions, not become a folder of documents prepared for one audit. Cyberus supports a risk-based management system that connects scope, leadership, controls, evidence and continual improvement.
Practical ISO/IEC 27001 readiness
ISO/IEC 27001 sets requirements for an information security management system, or ISMS. It asks an organization to define scope, assess risk, select and operate controls, evaluate performance and improve the system over time.
Cyberus can review the current state, help structure risk and control work, and support audit preparation. Certification is a separate decision made by an accredited certification body.
From context to readiness
- Business context. What the organization does, who depends on it and which information matters most.
- Risk treatment choices. Recorded decisions about which risks to reduce, accept or transfer, and who owns them.
- Working ISMS records. Policies and records that show the management system operating in daily practice.
- Readiness judgement. A considered view on whether the organization is ready to approach a certification body.
Why it matters
- Business risk: Without a structured ISMS, security effort stays ad hoc and is hard to defend to customers who ask how information is protected.
- Decision it supports: Leaders can set a realistic timeline, assign owners and decide when to engage a certification body instead of guessing.
- What you receive: You receive a gap view, risk and control planning, working documentation and readiness notes; certification stays with the certification body.
Build the management system behind the evidence
Scope and context
Define organizational boundaries, interested parties, dependencies and the information in scope.
- Why it matters
- Unclear boundaries make the management system either too broad to run or too narrow to be credible.
- Supports
- Defining what the ISMS covers
Risk method and assessment
Establish repeatable criteria, identify risks and record treatment decisions and owners.
- Why it matters
- Consistent risk criteria stop treatment choices from depending on who happened to be in the room.
- Supports
- Repeatable, owner-backed risk decisions
Control and applicability review
Map selected controls to risk treatment and document inclusion or exclusion reasoning.
- Why it matters
- Reasoned inclusion or exclusion of controls shows that choices follow risk rather than habit.
- Supports
- Justifying the applicability of each control
ISMS documentation
Help structure policies, procedures and records that reflect how the organization actually works.
- Why it matters
- Documents that mirror real practice are followed; documents written for show are quietly ignored.
- Supports
- Usable policies, procedures and records
Performance and improvement and audit preparation
Plan objectives, monitoring, internal review and corrective-action evidence. Organize evidence, brief process owners and identify readiness gaps before formal assessment.
- Why it matters
- A management system that is never reviewed drifts away from the risks it was built to address. Process owners who have not been briefed struggle to explain their controls to an external assessor.
- Supports
- Evidence of review and corrective action; confident, consistent answers at formal assessment

Frequently asked questions
Does Cyberus issue ISO/IEC 27001 certification?
No. Cyberus supports readiness and improvement. An accredited certification body conducts the certification audit and decides whether to certify.
Do we need to implement every control in the standard?
Control selection should follow assessed risks and applicable requirements. The organization documents which controls are applicable and the reasons for inclusion or exclusion.
How much documentation is required?
The ISMS needs required documented information and enough evidence to operate consistently. Documents should fit the organization rather than duplicate processes without purpose.
Can an existing security program be used?
Yes. The gap review should reuse effective governance, controls and evidence, then focus effort on missing or inconsistent elements.
Team certifications
Individual qualifications held by members of the Cyberus team. They are not company accreditations, and not every consultant on an engagement holds every badge.
